As mentioned previously, T2 was always my favourite. When I was a kid that fecking liquid metal was like the pinnacle of special effects and awesomeness. And though it does show its age (especially in high res) it is still fecking awesome. I think I may actually prefer the first one now, not that T2 is any less perfect. There are some slight pacing issues though and I think Terminator is a lot more contained. Linda Hamilton is in much better form here and Sarah is more ‘likable’. Gender roles are messed with once again with the ‘carer’ role going to Arnie and Sarah more or less being the ‘hero’.

And watching the two back to back, there’s so much that’s unique/under-used in these kinds of films. Things like Miles being told what happens and he goes ‘yep, you’re right this needs to be stopped’ and not hesitating and opting for technical advancement over human lives, for example. There’s something very simple, yet complex, about both films and the way the characters act without resorting to stereotypes or falseness.
