Although I feel the Dogme style both enhances and hinders – the shaky cam and ‘home movie’ look keep it down to Earth and real, but sometimes the poor quality can be frustrating – overall it’s an immensely effective film. The build-up to the climax is so awkward, uncomfortable and unsure that it’s impossible to not be blown away by the latter half of the film. Acting is top-notch from every single cast member, and no character feels shallow or stereotypical; they all feel like real people.
